I am a self taught bladesmith. I started studying in 2013 reading various books and learning from other makers. I would watch their hammer swings, their grind passes, and with each knife I would make I would meticulously inspect and test the finished product to discover their weaknesses and make improvements. I have spent hours perfecting and studying metallurgy always seeking to improve my heat treat process. I am a firm believer that we should always strive for improvement, so I continue to study and research with each build. I embrace trial and error; if a knife does not perform the way that I want during test I ask "why" and then start again changing small elements during the build. Recently, I was a finalist on History Channel's Forged in Fire and was featured in season 7 episode 33 titled "The Japanese Ono". It originally aired on July 22, 2020 and can now be found on the History Channel app as well as their YouTube channel. This was a huge honor for me and I had the privilege of competing against some of the best blade smiths I know. I learned much from this experience and gained new friends in each of my competitors. Established in 2014, I started making knives as Christmas gifts to help my wife and I bare some of the financial burden of buying gifts for two large families. Needless to say they weren't great but, I made them with my own two hands. As time moved on I started forging knives instead of only doing stock removal and I fell in love. With every swing of my hammer I feel I am re-connecting with the past and keeping a forgotten skill alive. As I progressed I started building my own forges, buying tools, and doing tons of research always seeking to perfect and improve my knives. Today Brackin Blades Forge is my part time job. It helps me provide for my family and save for our future. At Brackin Blades Forge I hand forge every single knife. I meticulously heat treat and test each blade. I make each handle by hand. I do all of this to ensure the you receive a unique, strong, and usable knife that will stand the test of time. When you buy a knife from Brackin Blades Forge your not just getting a beautiful mantel piece but a tool designed to work as hard as the owner.
