Derek Watford is the Founder of High Point Gamer, an Esports consulting group that specializes in helping gamers, brands and organizations navigate the rapidly-evolving Esports industry. HPG established it’s presence in the Esports industry by producing competitive video game tournaments. Before entering the Esports industry, Derek proudly served his country while traveling the world and gaining valuable leadership experience. He was the go-to-soldier for top ranking officers to produce top-secret briefings and presentations that were referenced and distributed to multiple branches of service and government. The skills and experience he gained in the military allowed him to successfully transition to the corporate world. He was regarded as a stand-out professional throughout his exec-level corporate career where his roles and responsibilities covered everything from staff and vendor management to fiscal accountability. He was always considered a corporate asset with valuable brand building, app development, and project management experience. Regarded as authentic, he has retained his individuality while winning acceptance in a diverse range of corporate and social circles. He decided to leverage all of his military, corporate, entrepreneurial and social experiences to be a strong pioneer in the Esports industry. Derek recognizes gaming not only aided in his mental health but it was also the gateway to his tech interest which paved the way to him being a multi-faceted professional. He has worked with professional athletes and celebrities throughout his career; producing over 32 Esports and gaming events. His expertise was put to use during the inaugural season of the NBA’s 2k league, where he provided career advice to newly drafted pro gamers, and valuable consulting to newly appointed Esports staff. Under his leadership, HPG was the first in Florida to produce a scholarship gaming tournament series entitled, STIX-to-GLORY. This tournament was the first of it’s kind to give high school students the opportunity to use their gaming skills to fund their continued education. In addition to being an innovative pioneer, He is a sought after thought-leader in the discussion about - “The Benefits of Implementing Esports’ Programs in Schools.” Derek believes Esports can help promote economic empowerment, social inclusion and diversity. He ultimately wants to build an Esports facility that can support the development and growth of an industry that is able to provide social and economic benefits to anyone interested in participating, whether locally, nationally or internationally.
