Hey, my name is Zakiya (zuh-KEE-yuh). I'm a playwright, Broadway and tv actress, singer and former college professor. Life threw me a cuveball last year when I was diagnosed with stage 4 endometriosis. Due to the severity of my disease, my team and I opted for a full hysterectomy and bowel resection. The surgery was 16 hours! I'm a literal miracle!
Consequently, I've become way more conscious of what I put in and on my body to help keep the disease from spreading. I've also started giving my friends the heads up about the gnarliest parts of menopause. But I do it with a smile and a sense of humor, because I've gotten my life back. And I'm so grateful to be alive.
I also like to give audiences a sneek peek into the life of a professional actress. I've started planning videos about fashion as it relates to acting, as well as showing off my rapidly growing wig collection. I love wigs. Absolutely love them. I choose them according to my mood. :-)
Life is for living and my new outlook on life has me focusing on what's truly important. And doing it with a smile on my face and in my heart.
