For more than 20 years, Tirthankar Poddar aka 2Blue has been unswervingly focused on paying his respect to his roots while fronting a rock band that believes in taking no prisoners. From Agartala where he was born to Mumbai where he now lives, 2Blue’s journey tells an inspiring story: That with passion and dedication, no dream is impossible. Inch by inch, he earned his way into the list of the top 10 male singers in India for classic rock. Although he specializes in English, 2Blue is proficient in Hindi and Bengali too. 2Blue is also a writer, motivational speaker, storyteller, and actor. He doesn’t have ‘one true calling’ but many. This is a pattern he shares with his heroes, and he uses it to bring together ideas from two or more fields to create something unique at the intersection. And with the gift of a voice that can go from a whisper to a scream and the experience acquired from having delivered over a thousand live performances, 2Blue’s idea synthesis has helped celebrate new beginnings, anniversaries, award ceremonies, and farewells of countless people in MNCs, proprietary businesses, TV studios, night clubs, music festivals, schools, and colleges from Guwahati to Rajkot, Varanasi to Manipal, and all points in between.
2Blue is best experienced live.
From fronting the iconic rock band Vayu to going solo very successfully, 2Blue's career is defined by live performances, notable among which are those with Ron 'Bumblefoot' Thal of Guns N' Roses, Paul Di'Anno of Iron Maiden, George Lynch of Dokken, and Jonas Hellborg from Mahavishnu Orchestra. Other milestones in his career include: 'Best Band' at ArtistAloud Awards, Mumbai and 'Asian Anthem of the Year' at AVIMA, Kuala Lumpur. But 2Blue never paused to celebrate. Restless and hungry to break new ground, he turned a new leaf by blending the soundtracks of Indian cinema with his brand of rock n’ roll. And that has been a decided asset in his inexorable rise.
This may come as a surprise but up until 2014, 2Blue served as Vice President at an IT company. So for a long time, his tinted glasses, silver jewellery, and tattooed arm had to remain hidden. Even his now-famous ‘Jon Bon Jovi Hair’ had to be toned down. Then he gave it all up to be his true self. And soon, he made his acting debut playing Judas in the critically acclaimed rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar. As part of his preparation, he was trained by the masters themselves: Alyque Padamsee, Shiamak Davar, Sabira Merchant, Deirdre D'Cunha, and Karla Klossher. The same year, 2Blue also worked as a part-time radio jockey. Then in 2018, he played 'Tina Bilkis' in the ZEE5 original 'Akoori' to bring attention to the LGBT community in India. Digitally or otherwise, 2Blue continues to perform actively to this day. His performances always create an experience that can be best described as transformative. In his own words, "Whether it is music I wrote or not, I remain committed to enriching lives… through live performances!"
