Rebecca Cahua is a Bay Area native known for her leadership in the community. Troubled by the homelessness that plagued her city, she was inspired to start her own philanthropy, Designing a Difference. As her nonprofit expanded, Rebecca set her sights on creating employment opportunities in apparel manufacturing, an industry that has been in steady decline for decades. Armed with a M.S. in Consumer Science from San Francisco State University, she was well equipped to open her own apparel manufacturing business.
Since 2017, Designing a Difference Sewing House has been working to keep clothing production in the Bay Area and supporting the most vulnerable in the community. DaD Sewing House has employed dozens and has launched the careers of many young professionals in fashion though internships and mentorship. The Sewing House shares a space with Hire-ability, a nonprofit providing job training for individuals with disabilities.
Designing a Difference Sewing House’s young executive team is integrating traditional production with modern technology to provide an innovative and streamlined manufacturing process. We offer our services to established brands, up-and-coming local designers, tech companies, and sports teams alike. We are working to continue the rich history of fashion in San Francisco by merging old and new industries. DaD Sewing House knows the best way to grow in the Bay Area is through strong relationships!
