The blog Good for Spooning has been a passion project for nearly 10 years. As a former culinary event manager and show runner, I worked for, and with, many chefs across the country (no, I will no name drop). As a trained culinarian myself, I have an excellent knowledge of food and kitchen techniques and tools, and I have a deep and abiding love of all things kitchen and food. In the past year, I decided to change the focus of my blog to incorporate my work as a travel agent, so basically if it's about food or travel, or eating while traveling, or traveling while eating, I am IN! My husband of 32 years and I travel as much as possible. In fact, I became a travel agent to get a kick back on our own travel! When traveling here or abroad, we make plans around great local restaurants, bars, and breweries. We try to support small locally owned businesses as much as possible both at home and on the road. Nothing is off limits. We try everything from food trucks to diners to bistros to elegant restaurants, enjoying everything in between. When people ask what is the best trip I have ever taken, it is usually the last one I have been on - haha! We have done all inclusive vacations, cruises, river cruises, land vacations, and road trips. All have their appeal and charm, but the river cruises have been our faves so far (Seriously the Nile is amazing!). As a rule, I am open to just about anything travel related except camping - that proverbial ship has sailed. These days my version of camping is a mom & pop motel with no internet. Living in the Las Vegas valley, I learned to desert garden and while I miss the gardens of my youth, I only water things I can eat. I have an herb garden, fruit trees, and a few potted flowers, but mostly if you can't eat it, I don't want to waste the water. Being in Vegas also allows us prime access to some of the best entertainment in the world and I take advantage of everything this city has to offer. Cirque du Soleil, blues bands in dive bars, culinary dine-arounds, beer festivals, and special events are just some of the things I enjoy. My guilty pleasure is TV - I watch a ton of it. Nothing reality based except [link-omitted]e shows (SVU, etc.), Medical Dramas (Grey's Anatomy), Suspense (The Blacklist). I almost never watch sit coms - except for Will & Grace, but sadly, I am addicted to General Hospital (I started watching with my Mom in junior high). While I love fashion and accessories, I often say I am "decoratively challenged - I don't even accessorize well". Half of my wardrobe is black and is punctuated with vibrant scarves, handbags and shoes of good quality. I am always searching for the perfect hosiery, camera bag, and luggage. I have yet to find perfection after many purchases, returns, and donations to charity (on the part of the luggage & camera bags). I am a retired Air Force spouse and traveled with my husband to every assignment, moving 13 times in 21 years. I am the mother of a 26 year old only child who is a college graduate working in his field of study. I am a winner! NO grandkids and not in a hurry for them either. Feel free to reach out with questions at any time!
