Originally, from New York City by way of Los Angeles, Annette Ramos is now a Rochester-based Latinx leader, community advocate and Cultural curator with collaboration at the heart of her leadership process. Annette’s career path is as divergent as her approach to leadership. She is dedicated to advancing the next generation of community leaders and activists. Many describe Annette as high energy with a driven determination to make authentic connections, and her unyielding ability to activate the unique contributions of her client’s leadership vision, thus improving community resources and strengthening social positive outcomes for those she serves.
Annette has over 35 years of work as a Teaching Artist across the USA, and in multiple school districts, conferences and festivals. She now serves as cofounder, producer, director & playwright for dozens of Latinx productions in the role of Executive Director for the Rochester Latino Theatre Company founded in 2011. She continues to lead through her civic engagement as the co-chair of the City of Rochester’s AC3 Arts Commission and at the County level in voter registration for the Board of Elections. Annette also serves on the board of Ibero American Action League, Monroe County’s DEI Cultural Committee, and the National Smithsonian Latino Museum Advisory Committee. In the community, she continues to collaborate on various community driven projects with an emphasis on bringing solutions to local Latinx concerns, advocating on issues influencing WOC, Latina pay equity, youth empowerment and community driven initiatives.
In 2014, Annette was recognized as a Latina doing remarkable deeds and given the National Hispanicize 2014 Positive Impact Award, and in the same year Rochester’s Latinas Unidas 20214 Leadership award. Recent recognitions include the 2023 Father Tracy Award, Greater Rochester Chamber 2022 Colors of Success DEI Award Nominee, City of Rochester 2021 International Plaza Service Award, and recently as an Inductee into the Marquis Who’s Who 2021-2022. Annette was a featured community activist at the RMSC 2020 Changemakers Exhibit highlighting the amazing work she and other WOC have contributed to Rochester’s creative economy.
Additional recognitions include the 2018 Aires Navadenos for her contributions to Latinx Arts, the 2017 Hillside Work Scholarship Hispanic Heritage Award, the 2016 Ibero’s Lo Mejor de lo Nuestro/The Best of Us award and the 2016 Hispanic Volunteer Award from the Rochester City School District for her many years of providing quality arts education programs. Annette has over 35 years of accomplished work as a Teaching Artist, master Storyteller and community activist.
