Bluesky

Since its public launch in 2024, Bluesky has grown to over 40 million registered users and aims to offer more control over feeds, moderation, and the social experience. Because no single entity owns the entire network, decentralized platforms such as Bluesky are generally more resistant to censorship, sudden policy changes, and data exploitation, while promoting transparency, interoperability, and user choice. Positioning itself as a competitor to X (Twitter) and Threads, Bluesky offers features that are very familiar to other microblogging platforms such as short text updates, direct messaging, and multimedia sharing.

Threads

Threads launched in 2023 as a text-focused space for real-time conversations and content sharing. Created by Meta (the company behind Facebook and Instagram), Threads has grown into one of the fastest-adopted social apps in history, with around 400 million monthly active users and roughly 115 million daily active users worldwide, reflecting rapid expansion since its debut. Threads offers features similar to other microblogging and social networks: users can post short text updates, share photos and videos, engage with others’ content through replies and likes, and follow accounts they find interesting. Because it’s tightly integrated with Instagram, people can easily bring their existing social network and identity into Threads, making onboarding and connection building simple.

Rumble

Rumble is a video-sharing and social media platform that positions itself as an alternative to larger services like YouTube by emphasizing creator monetization and fewer content restrictions. Founded in 2013, Rumble enables users to upload and watch videos, livestream, and engage with content through comments and shares. Creators can earn money through ads, tips, and subscriptions, with tools for search, editing, and analytics to help grow audiences. Rumble reports the userbase has grown to over 65 million global users.

Kick

Kick is a live-streaming-focused social media platform that launched in late 2022 as a competitor to services like Twitch, with an emphasis on real-time video broadcasts and creator-friendly monetization. As of 2025, Kick has grown rapidly, with estimates indicating it has around 57 million total users worldwide, and supports hundreds of thousands of daily active streamers creating content for a global audience. The platform allows users to broadcast live video, watch others’ streams, interact through chat, and support creators via subscriptions, tips, and other revenue options
