I am a nationally recognised journalist, writer and broadcaster. I have written on arts, lifestyle, politics and travel for most of the daily broadsheet newspapers in the UK. I am a former BBC correspondent, arts editor, theatre critic, weekly columnist, feature writer and property columnist. I interview personalities and celebrities and review the news on national radio and TV. I lead one of the most beloved charities and fundraisers in the UK, BBC Children in Need and am also chair of Firstsite arts centre and Vice Chair of Opera North. I was made OBE in the Queen's New Year Honours 2018 for my work leading Hull 2017 City of Culture. I love running and have run 10 marathons with a PB of 3.47, including the Great Wall of China and all the Marathon Majors. I have written 2 novels and 2 non-fiction books on art and travel.
