Nya Abel has always been determined. Where others see obstacles, she sees opportunities. At the age of 5, she conquered the English language within 8 months of moving to Canada from Ghana. She overcame a debilitating fear of public speaking and graduated from post-secondary school specializing in public relations and corporate communications.
When Nya started her corporate career in 2004, she turned what was supposed to be a 3-month contract into a permanent position and became the youngest and only black regional manager of an international company with revenues of nearly $1 billion per year. At the age of just 25 she was nominated as one of Ontario’s Top 30 Under 30 in the hospitality industry.
In 2010 Nya faced her biggest challenge yet, she became a mother of twins. As a full-time career woman, wife and mother she continued to succeed in these new areas of her life. As each year passed, she spread herself pretty thin and continued to give more of herself away. Then one day in the Spring of 2020, she realized she had nothing left to give herself. She had gained almost 100 lbs over the past few years.
That is when Nya Plus Life was born. Nya decided it was time to take control of her life and start the journey of finding herself again. She created a YouTube channel to document her weighloss journey. She started the channel in an effort to help other women struggling with similar challenges. Through weight loss, self-care, sharing new experiences, and having some uncomfortable conversations, Nya is helping women around the globe unapologetically put themselves first.
