Mateo Žmak, born in Rijeka, Croatia, December 23rd, 1994 is currently one of the most promising young pianists in Croatia. He started musical education in his hometown Rijeka when he was 9. There he graduated from high school Ivan Matetić Ronjgov. After that, he got his master’s degree at the Music Academy of Zagreb in 2018 and finished cum laude (with highest scores) in class of Vladimir Babin. He participated in over 50 zonal, regional, state, European and worldwide competitions and performed in every major concert hall in his native Croatia as well as in the Unites States of America, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, Slovenia, FYR of Macedonia, Austria, Italy, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Poland and Lithuania. He was awarded “the Oscar of knowledge” (award for the best classical musician) in 2015. He recieves scholarship from Rotary Club’s foundation “Viktor Ružić”. He has collaborated with people of various art forms such as literal and dance and is not only a classical pianist. Rather, he is also a pop and jazz pianist and collaborates with best young pop and musical artists such as Heather Ivy, Đani Stipaničev, Martina Majerle, Medea Market Sindik, Antonio Krištofić, Matea Dujmović, Katja Budimčić Sabljar, Voljen Grbac, Antonella Malis, Viven Galletta (...) and yearly plays over 150 concerts with them. He also accompanies one of the best choirs in Croatia such as Rijeka - Sempre Allegro”, “Vokalni Studio Rijeka”, “Sloga i Martin Matetić”. Radojka Šverko’s live CD “As time goes by”, in which he participates, was given a “Porin” (Croatian version on MTV Awards) for the best jazz album in 2018. In addition, this album sold most copies that year. He is ambassador of “Gentlemen’s shop” and “Fidelio clothing”. Currently, he is in pursuit of getting a doctoral degree on Faculty of music in Belgrade under mentorship of Aleksandar Serdar which, after completion, will give him the highest possible level of education in music. His field of expertise is music by Frederic Chopin and Franz Liszt. He updates his YouTube channel twice a week with series of piano solo performances and for providing piano accompaniment for operatic arias and songs from musicals. Aside from music, his main interests lie in technology (mainly all things related to Apple products, services, apps and pretty much everything else), fashion (he wants to look exceptionally good in the moments when he is performing on stage, but also for everyday clothing, watches, glasses, hats and shoes) and philosophy.
