Julius Jules Banda also known as Jules is a Malawian Hip Hop Artist, Spoken Word Artist, Songwriter and
Activist. Born on 1st January, 1993 Jules found creative freedom in Music and Poetry when he was 8. He recalls listening to Tupac Shakur and being inspired to rap. Raised by his mother, he moved around the capital city (Lilongwe) and Johannesburg when he was very young. He would later learn to express himself to deal with the abuse that his mother encountered from his father.
He holds a bachelor degree in Arts Humanities from the prestigious University of Malawi, Chancellor College. He usually fuses Hip Hop with spoken word to tell distinct stories. He is set apart by his unique word play and delivery. He is arguably the fastest rising, passionate, and inspiring force coming out of Malawi. He first came to the showbiz scene in 2016 under the legendary Q. Malewezi and has been consistent hence being one of the most highlighted artist by the media in Malawi. He is the founder of No Child Left Behind which uses arts, education and activism to foster change among young people.
Some of his key performance include; Qabaniso Malewezi “people” spoken word album launch at BICC(2016), TEDx in Zomba (2016), Ovation fusion festival at BICC (2016/2017), Tumaini Festival at Dzaleka Refugee Camp (2016/2017/2018), Ufulu Festival at Civo Stadium (2017/2018), Lake of stars festival in Salima(2018). He is also a featured artist on Zimbabwe’s Revolution Music Group album “Scars of Wisdom”. On 30th June, 2018 Jules released his debut project called I am Somebody EP whereby he addressed his struggles and pursue to inspire his community and beyond. The EP gained him commercial success when it broke through the local and international scene with listeners in over 20 countries.
