Every so often a bright new shining star lights up the music universe. And as a spectator,
all you do is sit back and get ready to enjoy the show, because you know you are in for a
ride.
Aaron Paulsen is a self-taught drummer and multi-instrumentalist hailing from Lake
County, Illinois. The dexterous 18-year-old came into the limelight with his
one-man band videos on his TikTok channel that went viral. In the videos Aaron takes
song requests from his followers, arranging the songs by playing his electric guitar whilst
playing drums with his feet at the same time. On top, he often sings and plays keyboard,
along with any other instrument he can get his hands on.
As a result he was dubbed “the actual guitar hero”, receiving accolades from the likes of
Steve Aoki, Ellen and Luke Holland to name just a few. To date he has amassed millions of views and
counting.
Born into a family of music lovers, Aaron was introduced to everything from rock to pop,
funk and country early on. He discovered the drums at the age of seven and immediately
taught himself to play. With a natural ear for music, he went on to audition for his middle
school jazz band – despite not being able to read music. It was his first real introduction to
jazz music, and he was hooked. Around this time, his knack for learning new instruments
also saw him pick up an acoustic guitar in an antique shop and teach himself to play his
favorite rock songs.
Aaron would go on to excel as a drummer in the school band programs, landing the
coveted title of first chair in the district’s top jazz band by his senior year, recognized as
one of the best high school jazz drummers in Illinois. He even plays the drums upside
down.
Having studied everything from rock, funk, pop and Latin music alongside jazz, Aaron is
not tied to any genre, and he lists Rob Scallon, Jacob Collier, Charlie Puth and Marc
Rebillet as his inspiration.
Currently attending Carthage College on a scholarship, Aaron is funneling his creativity
into his own music productions within the electronic pop spectrum, to be revealed very soon.
