Freelancer working in us , I have experience in 5 years. I'll start by maybe rephrasing the question: What is a reasonable expectation of daily or weekly copy from a copywriter and advertising
Now for some context. We hired a copywriter about a year ago. Initially, we were using him as more of a creative specialist. He was helping storyboard and direct photo and video shoots, conceptualise social media posts as part of our organic social media team, and occasionally write copy for email, social media, and our website.
Fast forward to today. We've started putting a lot more focus into an SEO strategy. That has required a lot of new copy. So his current daily workload, at least for the time being, is primarily plugging inquiries into ChatGPT and proofreading the output to make sure it's compliant before sending it to me for final approvals and publishing (I understand that's not typical for a copywriter, but we don't have the resources to produce all this content from scratch). I've broken up his workload into three projects, each about 20k words, and have set the expectation of two weeks to complete each one. Unfortunately, he's started falling behind and stopped proofreading, resulting in unusable content.
Is 10k words per week, using Al as a starting point, asking too much? His main frustrations are that he feels like he's burning out and calls the work tedious. "It's just data entry." Are his comments valid? I'm trying to determine if I need to recalibrate my expectations or focus more on motivation.
